STORM REPAIR SERVICES
RIDING THE STORM OUT
We are here to help
Once your claim is filed your insurance company will send out a Claims Adjuster to inspect your roof. As your contractors we are happy to meet with the adjuster on your behalf to discuss the scope of the project and bring up any issues that we see that may not be immediately apparent to the adjuster. Sometimes these items include wall flashing, certain roof accessories, and code upgrades that need to be met due to revised local codes. Having your contractor involved at the early stage of the claim can vastly streamline the process so that you can get your check, and your new roof, in a timely fashion.
Rapid City Roofing generally works for insurance rates and can provide an estimate that gets your roof project completed for the amount you are being compensated. Many homeowners try to shop around for a lower price, however, generally speaking, insurance companies will only pay out the amount charged by the contractor. If you receive an estimate much lower than the amount covered by insurance, that contractor may be cutting corners to be able to come in at a price lower than those established by the insurance industry. Often this means inferior materials that may increase potential future risk factors such as further damage from wind.
HOW IT WORKS
Processes can differ between insurance companies but a standard process for a roofing or siding claim is usually plays out like this:
- The property owner experiences damage from a storm or other event and files a claim with their insurance company.
- The insurance company send out an adjuster who examines the damage and issues a check for a portion of the amount of money it will cost to replace the roof or siding.
- The homeowner then hires a contractor to do the work. After the work is completed, the contractor submits an invoice to the property owner who in turn submits it to the insurance company as proof that owner restored the damaged property.
- The insurance company issues the remaining portion of the claim to the owner and the homeowner pays the contractor for their work.
The first check an owner receives is based on the ACV (Actual Cost Value). The second check the owner receives is based on the RCV (Replacement Cost Value).
Most insurance companies handle claims professionally and quickly and do their best to make sure you get the proper compensation to replace your damaged property. However sometimes issues may arise. Homeowners will find that although all of their neighbors have damage their adjuster finds that they did not. And occasionally adjusters miss a few things. During storm events they are working long hours and handle many inspections a day. Mistakes happen. This is why involving a contractor in the early stages claim can be a valuable tool in the process. An experienced and properly trained contractor will be your extra set of eyes, utilizing their expertise to analyze your damage and calculate the work that will be needed to meet or exceed the existing quality of your property.
